Mechanical Engineer for Electronic Suspension System (ESS)


Responsible for mechanical engineering, design and development of air spring modules (ASM) for electronic air suspension systems

  • Engineering Development of air springs and sub­components in alignment with customer/internal requirements and package boundary conditions
  • Initiation and leading of package studies for envelope determination
  • Planning and participation on Design­ Review ­Based ­Failure ­Mode (DRBFM)­ and DFMEA­ meetings
  • Support the detailing of component and assembly drawings
  • Kick off FEA simulation orders, determine load cases and design goals
  • Kick­off of test­ and prototype orders as well as engineering change requests incl. tracking of execution
  • First customer contact partner for technical questions and design related topics
  • Alignment of the customer requirements with the current Continental specifications
  • Presentation of design and DFMEA results in reviews at customer
  • Core team member for internal interfaces (purchasing, project management, sales, logistic, industrial engineering, prototype shop)
  • Creation of internal and customer product specifications
  • Requirement documentation in the Conti requirement management system
  • Verification of customer / supplier requirements with internal specifications/requirements
  • Maintenance of engineering schedule and with other disciplines including customer milestones
  • Responsible for adherence to schedules for engineering milestones
  • Preparation of required documents and work products for releases and gate reviews
  • Definition of component specification for suppliers
  • Perform supplier management (technical contact partner for suppliers)
  • Participation on plant launch planning meetings

Additional Information

  • Collection of external (supplier) costs & estimation of internal efforts (personal resources, prototypes, licenses, ... )
  • Evaluation of engineering change requests (customer, plant or development driven) for cost and effort estimation
  • Creation of interface agreement (RASI)
  • Representing Air Spring Design competence at Customer meetings.
  • Assistance for optimization of development processes used in the group
  • Support first component assembly trials in production facility
  • Interaction with international project team


  • Bachelor in engineering required
  • Knowledge in Mechanical component design for strength and durability
  • Strong technical & problem-solving skills and strong communication & organization skills are required
  • Team oriented and ability to coordinate development teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical development
  • Master in Engineering
  • Experience with chassis suspensions systems or air suspension systems / components
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, suspension geometries and performance metrics
