Edge2Cloud DevOps Engineer

Overview:

The competence center Manufacturing Applications within Automotive Operations – IT is responsible for solutions related to machining, manufacturing, and shop floor logistics, means from “Dock to Dock”.

We are providing the Automotive Standard MES (Manufacturing Execution System) – application as one core component of our “PRiME” product portfolio.

Following the SAFe DevOps approach, we are extending our product portfolio with the introduction of Industrie 4.0 and Smart Factory principles to a Cloud Native / IIoT Edge Device based architecture. This enhancement is based on serverless applications in the cloud, providing the Manufacturing Data Lake @ Cloud and an EventStore for AI approaches as well as offering a hybrid Cloud – Native platform “Edge2Cloud.

We are looking for a DevOps-Engineer working in our agile SAFe@MA – team “Edge2Cloud”.

Job function:

Ensures the concepts, development and operation of high available and reliable solutions and related IT services for all plants worldwide in Automotive Operations for our Edge2Cloud platform. The Edge2Cloud platform uses Kubernetes Cluster (K8s) in location data Center as well as in the cloud, and lightweight Kubernetes cluster for Edge Device. The platform offerings will be extended by several base service like RabbitMQ, KeyCloak, CouchDB and more.
Tasks are executed in accordance with company guidelines, the SAFe @ MA roles – Product Owner Edge2Cloud – team and the Head of Connectivity and Internet of Things as functional lead.

Principal accountabilities:

1. Works globally at the development and operations of our hybrid Cloud – native platform “Edge2Cloud”.
2. Part of the DevOps – team / SAFe-agile – team “Edge2Cloud”
3. Designs and adopts new technical developments for possible optimization of the CC’s IT solutions
4. Develops and rolls out ongoing optimization of our implementation with respect to cost/benefit
5. Provides guidance to and share knowledge with teams relating to area of specialization.
6. Tests and releases software components (doing or coordinating) by using CI/CD pipelines.
7. Supports Incident Management (3rd level support)
8. Consults our customers to enable them using our platform in an efficient way
9. Works as member or lead in international project teams
10. Collaborates with IT CC’s, central functions or Business Areas in order to develop standard solutions
11. Ensures non-interrupted operations in the plants for the respective area of responsibility
12. Supports continuous technology market screening

Education: University degree in computer sciences or similar

Professional experience: 3+ years practice in IT departments, knowledge of manufacturing concepts, understanding of technology as well as business processes, IT service management

Required qualifications:

• Good Experiences in Cloud – native development and architecture
• Knowledge about containerization (docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Principles of Agile
• Usage of CI / CD – pipelines
• Self-dependent and team-minded
• English spoken and written

Optional qualifications:

• Knowledge about agile frameworks and methods (e.g. SAFe)
• Knowledge about Microservice Development
• Knowledge about Manufacturing processes
