Environmental Safety & Health Internship

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) Internship at Continental is a once in a lifetime opportunity to support a new facility start-up located in New Braunfels, Texas. The $110 million facility will manufacture Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for automated and assisted driving. The Environmental Safety & Health Internship position is a developmental role to gain practical experience in the ESH function and support the needs of the department. In this capacity, the ESH Intern will contribute to successful operations for the new facility site. This position is scheduled to last 12 weeks in length from May 20, 2024-August 9, 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evaluates the work environment for occupational safety, environmental protection, fire protection, security and health.
• Assist with the development and implementation ESH related processes in the location to ensure legal compliance.
•Conduct occupational safety checks before start of operation of equipment and machines.  
• Utilize Risk Assessment methods to generate safety analyses and concepts as well as emergency preparedness plans. 
• Coordinate and control the generation of analysis of accidents and evaluate them for root cause detection and corrective action effectiveness.
• Provide assistance to management in program elements to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations regarding control and disposal of waste.
• Evaluate current work practices and make recommendations regarding safe chemical handling.
• Coordinate activities to ensure site health and medical services are adequate to meet the site needs as well as focus on proactive programs for site employees.
• Assist with emergency response planning and execution.
• Monitor maintenance and inspection of emergency response equipment and processes.
• Assist with the coordination of Industrial Hygiene testing as needed for air contaminants, noise, etc. • Assist with accident investigations and recommend the corrective actions necessary to prevent recurrence. Track injuries and illnesses for trends or patterns.
• Assist in developing & conduct health and safety training courses for supervisors and employees as needed.
• Creates and maintains the Plant’s Safety and Environmental Policy work instructions.
• Conduct safety and environmental compliance audits and regulatory applicability reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited University Degree Program
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in occupational safety and health, environmental sciences, engineering or natural science and proof of the functional knowledge of occupational safety and/or environmental protection
• 3.0 overall GPA or higher
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
