Cold Prep Jumper


The Cold Prep Jumper operates the Bead Apex Cell (BAC) machinery, Apex bead forming machines and extruders produce truck tire beads. The Jumper is also required to operate all cutting machines in the department. The operator is also responsible for ensuring quality components, ensuring adequate stock, controlling bead inventories, troubleshooting and maintaining machines.

•Jumper operator must be able to effectively communicate with Commercial Stock Prep supervision, truck tire-room personnel, and any supplying department. 

•Jumper operator must be capable of running/operating all Bead/Apex Cells and any support machinery in the department.

•Must ensure the quality of the stock being produce, detecting and removing defective stock before it is formed into beads, beads properly spliced, and the produce quality finished truck beads.

•Operator must observe operation of Beas/Apex Cells and operate controls as necessary, must be alert to any malfunction, out-of-spec conditions or any extraordinary condition and immediately notify Commercial Stock Prep supervision whenever  such conditions occur.

•Operator must be able to receive and understand oral and written instructions, fill out Two Hour counts, recording the proper data such as operation number, the rate amount of which beads are produced, and any downtime.

•Operator will be responsible for properly identifying and applying stock tags for each bead rack/book, entering on the stock tag the required information/data.

•Operator's time will be accurately and correctly indicated on timecards on time sheets or electronically according to operation number, rates, and the number of units cured.

•Perform other duties as directed by the Commercial Stock Prep/beads Supervisor or Department/Manager.

•Must be able to read and understand written and oral instructions: as to specs, procedures, tolerances, and various construction and quality requirement.

•Follow all plant polices, environmental policies, and plant and departmental safety policies.

Medium to Heavy work requiring lifting to 50lbs maximum, with frequent lifting and or carrying of 35lbs.Exposed to high heat and dust. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Actively participate in business team meetings, follow-up on efficiency and losses development, improvement of OEE/TEEP, performance goal setting and ensure the CBS approach is being applied within the cross functional business team. Follow up on correct application of standards with production and support development of Standard operating procedures. Conduct improvement workshops on the shop floor with production and any other stakeholder within the area of responsibility.

Ensure the implementation of standards according to CBS and ensure that the CBS tools are being applied correctly. Participate as a champion for the area of responsibility for an area wide initiative such as 5's or TPM. Actively participate in the CBT coaching reviews of level 1 teams and assist the level 1 teams in achieving  the defined targets and realizing the innovations coming from the level 1 team.

HS diploma/ GED.

Associates Degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Technology preferred.

6 mth-1 year experience at Continental Tire Minimum

1- 3 year experience in manufacturing

Forklift driving experience preferred

Willing to work 8 and 12 hours rotating shifts- days, nights and weekends

QMS standards (ISO/TS16949, CCC, etc.)
