China Customs Compliance Manager

Your tasks

At Continental, we are building a world class customs organization on group level. As China Customs Compliance Manager, you will be contributing to the development and execution of AUMOVIO`s customs strategies in China. Reporting to the Head of Law China and Global Head of Customs and Foreign Trade, your key priority is safeguarding the necessary level of compliance. In parallel, you are responsible for assessing the as-is situation, deriving and executing objectives. By introducing new ways of working and collaboration with stakeholders, you transform the customs setup in the China into a trusted and proactive function adding value to the business.

You will therefore

  • Lead the China Customs Team by setting clear objectives, managing workflows, and ensuring effective communication among team members. Key role in performance management, mentoring, and fostering a positive, productive team environment.
  • Identify and communicate customs related risks and opportunities to the Head of Law China and Global Head of Customs and Foreign Trade, your peers in the Automotive Customs team and other stakeholders in the region
  • Lead all customs non-operational processes and procedures having impact on Customs in China
  • Proactively search for improvement opportunities for compliance or customer satisfaction; conduct industry benchmark analysis; prepare business cases and strategic presentations for management
  • Lead continuous improvement of the processes towards automatizations, digitalization, KPI measurement and compliance in China
  • Work with the entire customs community in AUMOVIO on the development, rollout and maintenance of a customs governance framework, i.e. processes and procedures that ensure consistency, efficiency and sustainability in the area of customs compliance in the region and beyond
  • Develop and conduct customs specific training as required by legislation and authorities.
  • Develop and Implement measures fostering the performance and level of compliance provided by loca operational teams, shared service centers and third-party service providers
  • Work on customs related requests including timely, accurate and detailed work plans, resource schedules, project estimates and status reports.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with China customs authorities where appropriate as well as with all other regulatory authorities to carry out company business
  • Provide advice and support regarding customs procedures/programs that may reduce duty obligations
  • Prepare assessments and reports as required by management
  • Monitor legal developments and conduct impact assessments
  • Participate in customs audits where necessary

Your profile

  • University degree within business/finance/informatics or an interdisciplinary education, such as international business law or business informatics.
  • You have gained at least 5-7 years of corporate experience within customs/taxes/controlling or finance or have been working for a multinational business advisory company in the area of customs
  • You are familiar with Free Trade Agreements and their application in China
  • You demonstrate good communication skills, openness, a cooperative working style and a distinct ability to work with people across cultures and countries.
  • Fluent English both in speaking and writing.
  • You prefer a team-oriented way of working and show high assertiveness
